Speech for the Ashtabula County Tea Party

Good evening;

My name is Bob Schultz and I am a “recovering politician”, having served as a member of Council and three times as Mayor. I first became politically involved in the early 80’s because I got “ticked” off at the government and I have been “ticked” off ever since.
I am a Conservative and once a registered Democrat until the party left me and I am currently registered as a Republican, but they also have left me. I really do not see much difference in either party and I see both of them leading us to totalitarianism.

I believe that both parties have sold their soul to lobbyists and other special interest groups, threatening our livelihood, and more importantly, our liberties.

Woodrow Wilson said, “Liberty has never come from the government. Liberty has always come from the subjects of it. The history of liberty is a history of resistance.”

The political parties treat the American voter like a prostitute. The only time the prostitute is significant to the customer is when he needs her. The only time we are significant to either party is during an election. They will say anything, do anything to get elected. Once the votes are counted, we become irrelevant and they go on their way. Perhaps the one and only way to preserve our liberties is with a Second American Revolution.

Even here, in Ashtabula County, our elected officials are on this “political merry-go-round”. They get elected, serve a few terms, resign in mid-term, take another political position, and the Party appoints their successor. Once they resign, there should be a special election so the taxpayers, not the political fat cats, choose their replacement. This self-righteous arrogance has got to stop.

Because of all this “cronyism”, I recently resigned my position with my party’s Executive Committee and will become an Independent before the next election.

Here is how I stand on some of these issues of today.
I strongly support the Second Amendment and I feel the Liberals in Washington know they can never disarm America, so they plan to make it very difficult to purchase ammo. They are doing this by raising taxes and making it impossible for manufacturers to buy the raw materials.

I also support the 10th Amendment, that the States have the final say, not Washington. I also believe that a “fetus” is a human being from the moment of conception and if the so called “Pro-Choice” crowd continue to fight against a Human Life Amendment to the Constitution, then maybe we should make abortion retroactive.

I also believe in traditional family values. One woman, one man for life. I know divorce happens, but the government and judges have made it too easy. The children are the real victims and the pain and guilt lasts a lifetime.

I also believe America was founded on biblical principals, as recognized by Benjamin Franklin at the Constitutional Convention when he said, “I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth-that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the Ground without His notice, is it probable that an Empire can rise without His Aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this.”
As an American, I have the “right” to belong to a local church and be a follower of Jesus Christ. The “Church” in America has every right to get involved in the affairs of government but the government has no business getting involved in the affairs of the “Church”. If that makes me a “right-wing extremist”, then I will side with Ben Franklin every time.

Just last week, Congress increased their office budget by 7% because of the increased demands brought on by the recession they created. How many business owners have increased their budgets this year by 7%, or even 1%? Hardly any, if that! Why? Because you can’t print more currency like Congress does.

To the contrary! Businesses are being forced to scale back, cutting salaries of employees and themselves. I have talked to many business owners who haven’t taken a pay check in a while just so they can keep from laying off anymore workers. Some have gone a step further by cutting hours and days of operation.

This is close to my heart and what I am saying is fact. Just a few months ago, I had to close a business we started 11 ½ years ago, because of local zoning regulations, the cost of doing business locally, and taxes. The buying power of our customers greatly diminished in the past year, leaving us with just memories and a mountain of debt.

Where was my bail out? Where is your bail out? It’s in the bank accounts of “fat cats” across America, that’s where! Washington is taking away our freedom to earn a living and we need to stop them right now. President Reagan said, “Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today's world do not have.”

Not long ago, we were in the heart of America’s industrial corridor and middle class America. The EPA, OSHA, Workers Comp, NAFTA, and spineless politicians have chased our good paying manufacturing jobs to China, Mexico, and India. In exchange, we get minimum wage jobs at McDonalds and Motel 6. Have you had enough?

The government has taken over General Motors and made Barack Obama Mr. Good Wrench. They pressured Chrysler into bankruptcy, forced the closing of privately owned dealerships across the country, putting thousands of workers out of a job. This will have a ripple effect on the tax bases of cities and villages nationwide. I will hurt the budget of schools, libraries, charitable organizations, and the list goes on and on.

The House passed “Cap & Trade” late Friday and it will go to the Senate. If this passes, just watch your utility bills skyrocket. They are using the myth of Global Warming to raise our taxes. The Middle Class is becoming a thing of the past. Come on people, let’s do something before it’s too late.

At the same time, they plan a government take-over of private health care. These self-proclaimed “pro-choicers” want to take away our choice of a doctor and a hospital, knowing full well that the death rates from cancer and heart disease will grow. What they are planning is so good that they have exempted themselves. What arrogance! What elitism!

Is there hope? As Gov. Sarah Palin would say, “ You betcha”! Write this website down: www.goooh.com. It is Get Out of Our House! We, you and I, own the White House. Not President Obama! We own the Capital Building. Not Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, or Harry Reid!
Remember it is “…government of the people, by the people, and for the people”. We have the final say!

President Franklin Roosevelt said, “We, and all others who believe in freedom as deeply as we do, would rather die on our feet than live on our knees.”
I didn’t spend a year in Vietnam to live on my knees. I would rather die on my feet so my children and my grandchildren can enjoy the freedoms I have been blessed with. We need to elect leaders with a passion for the American people. Men and women who want to restore America to that “city on top of a hill, whose light can’t be hid”.

Ladies and gentlemen, the United States needs a revival of “old fashioned patriotism”. In November, 2010, we need to tell all 435 members of the House of Representatives; “Get out of our House, you’re fired”.
